had a picnic dinner in the park by the lake with anna today, which was great. today was just a beautiful day! after eating, chatting, and people watching, we walked for an hour or 2. i lost track of the time, but my feet didnt as i have a few blisters, lol. totally worth it. we even hit up an ice cream truck! seriously, a perfect summer day.
i stumbled across this and it suits me right now:

this reminds me of my high school advanced spanish class. the teacher made us memorize part of La Vida Es Sueño. i'd forgotten most of it except the last part "toda la vida es sueno y los suenos suenos son", so i was able to google and find the whole thing:

i actually kind of got a kick out of reading spanish literature in spanish. its definitely a different way of reading for me. in english, i read in a gluttonous, greedy kind of way -- quickly skimming over words to get to more words. but having to read in another language slows me down so that each word registers and makes an impact while i try to translate and make sense of the words, phrases, and sentences. this all reminds me of my goal to become fluent en espanol before i have kids so i can teach them. gotta get on that...

The night was perfect. Surprise gum balls in my italian shaved ice - that was pretty priceless.
I like the way you describe the way you read in English as a "gluttonous, greedy kind of way -- quickly skimming over words to get to more words." I feel like I do this, too - and in doing so I don't fully appreicate the writing and language. I have to consciously make an effort to do this.
I want my children to speak a second language, too. I get that Spanish would be the most practical, but how cute would it be to have little children running around speaking French. And, romantic when they are older.

lol, i do tend to read like someone's gonna take the book away from me before i can finish it. and no matter how good a book is, im always dissapointed when i get to the end and its over -- it is never, ever enough.
i try to slow down my reading sometimes, but it rarely works. reading in another language is definitely a different kind of experience for me. i'd like to be able to do that again. plus, it made me feel sophisticated or something, lol.
french speaking children would be very cute! spanish isnt my choice for practical reasons so much as an obligation to my cultural heritage, blah blah blah. :)
i wish my parents hadn't passed up the opportunity to teach me spanish when i was young, and i dont want to make the same choice with my own children.
Yea, but it is so much more practical - for you, too. You will have more clients than you can handle once you add Spanish speaking ones to the roster.
Obligation to my cultural heritage would entail speaking to my children in a British accent during their formative years.
I don't think I have ever been practical so I don't see why I should start with this. (on the French not the British accents - although if I were to move to England and have children there little kids with British accents might just top the French speaking), :)
oh yea definitely - i dont deny the practical, and i do actually want to be able to work with spanish-speaking clients. not only because there is a need for bi-lingual therapists, but also because of the cultural issues. but wanting my own kids to speak spanish and the obligation i feel to that and to speak spanish myself definitely have a stronger pull and motivation factor than the practical side.
if your kids had british accents, id make my kids hang out with them all the time in the hopes it'd rub off on them, hehe! how cute would it be if your kids spoke french AND had british accents?! :)
So I need to have children with a British man that speaks French fluently. That should be easy to find around here.
hmm...maybe we are putting too much pressure on our unborn children? lol
Whatever, they will be ours...they will be awesome. We have some awesome genes going on.
